BRANCH FORMATION
Currently the Association has branches in Barrie/Simcoe County, Calgary, Edmonton, Greater|Grand Sudbury, Hamilton, and Toronto. Members who are not located within these geographic locations are considered Members-at-Large.The Association welcomes interest from individuals or members who may are interested in the possibility of forming a branch in their area. Members-at-Large may wish to call together persons in a specific area and discuss formation of a Branch.
Generally, the steps required for formation of a new branch are:
- Ten or more members must agree to attempt to form a branch.
- With the assistance of the Director - Vice-President, a meeting should be arranged at a convenient location and notice given to interested individuals. Notice should be provided to all Members-at-Large in the area.
- National Board members and members of branches within a reasonable distance should be invited to attend the meeting.
- One member should be appointed 'unofficial president' to work with the Director - Vice-President in the interim period.
- If deemed feasible to form a new branch, a letter of intent should be provided to National Board; either from the 'unofficial president' or the Director - Vice-President.
- Formation of a new branch must be ratified by the membership.
- A new branch may operate on an interim basis until official ratification is received.
- An inaugural meeting will be held, with expenses borne by the National Association.
- A tentative slate of offices should be elected for installation at the inaugural meeting.
- Transfer of membership from Member-at-Large to the new branch will be completed at the inauguration meeting. These members would sign as Charter members of the newly formed branch.
Financial support and monies are available from National if the formation of a new branch is feasible.
