MEMBERS-AT-LARGE

As the Association's Director Vice President and MALs (Members at Large) Liaison, I invite you to read further and join the Association of Administrative Assistants as a MAL!
What are MALs (Members At Large)?
MALs are an integral group of members within the Association of Administrative Assistants. This group of members is comprised of individuals who are geographically located in areas where there is no Association Branch. Currently we have members from across Canada and also a longstanding member who lives in Bermuda.MALs are actively encouraged to attend monthly meetings and educational seminars that may be hosted by Association Branches should the opportunity arise.
Benefits to MALS
In addition to the many benefits outlined in Benefits to Members, all Association members are recipients of the Your Workplace magazine (8 publications yearly) as a perk of membership.Regularly, the Association works collaboratively with assisting organizations in their search for administrative professionals. These career opportunities are emailed directly to members and also posted on the Members' Only section of our web page.

Even though MALs are not located within close proximity to a Branch, there are many volunteer activities within the Association that MALs can participate in that may enhance their leadership skills, public speaking skills, creative skills, etc.Participation by MALs is greatly valued on the National Board of Directors, at Annual General Meetings (including local AGM Planning Committee Liaison), Communique Editor, etc., - the opportunities for participation are many!

The Association of Administrative Assistants celebrates 60 years of 'Professionalism through Education' in May 2012.
May 24th will be a public workshop with two guest speakers. We are proud to have both Helen Wilkie, President Elect for the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS), followed by an afternoon with Rhonda Scharf from On the Right Track. On May 25th, the Toronto Charter Branch will host the National Board meeting --- free to all members, however no voting rights for motions on the floor. This is a great opportunity to experience the 'behind the scenes' discussions on how a Canadian non-for-profit organization manages Association business. The 26th of May will encompass the National Annual General meeting with budget and election process, followed by a Qualified Administrative Assistant luncheon.
Please mark these dates in your calendars and join us on May 24-26, 2012, in Toronto, to help celebrate this glorious milestone! Watch for further details in the coming months.
